Part of the requirements for passing this class successfully requires students to complete a research project on a current astronomical topic. Although the class itself examines stars and galaxies, the student may feel free to select any subject area as long as it involves an up-to-date topic of research. You will find many possibilities by searching through astronomy-related news stories at:
Write an original paper based on your own research:
Minimum acceptable length: 5 (full) pages
Typed, double-spaced, single-sided, 12-point Times New Roman font
Paper format: MLA (click the link for more information)
On the first page, list student name, student number, title of paper, date handed in, and course number.
Bibliography with at least three primary sources.
Include title of work, author, publisher, date of publication.
If sources were found on the Internet, include title and full address (e.g., http://www.philharrington.net/dowling/esc1022/paper.htm)
Late projects will not be accepted, so please don't ask.
No recycled projects...this is to be your own, original work.
You are to integrate your research into your project, but the project must be in your own words. Do not simply cut and paste from sources to create your project.
Your project grade will be based on:
Content
Scientific accuracy
Grammar and spelling
Originality -- you are encouraged to do an observational project rather than a paper
